We are very lucky at St Peter’s to have an organ made by Hill of London which is almost original. The organ was built around the middle of the 19th century and is entirely mechanical. It even has the original leather for the blower but this is now beginning to crack and leak.
Late in 2016 it was decided that the time had come to refurbish the organ and advice was sought from experts at the diocese. After receiving several quotes for the work necessary one was chosen and the work will begin at the beginning of 2018. This will involve completely dismantling the organ to restore or renew all worn parts, to replace the leather in the blower, to clean and retune all the pipes. When finished we will have a wonderful instrument in great working order. It is hoped that we will be able to invite some celebrated organists to come to play and give recitals.
The cost of all this work will be about £12,500. So far we have raised just about £9000. So we are looking for some more help to reach our target. Can you help with any donation? We would be very grateful.
