The Mission and Charitable Giving sub – committee of the Parochial Church Council met recently to decide which charities to support this year. We selected two very worthy causes. The first is Under the Mango Tree which supports children at a school in Timboni, Kenya. Our donation of £400 will help to complete a new classroom. In Kenya, a little money goes a long way so it costs only £2 a day to feed a school child for a month. Some of the children will walk barefoot for miles to get to school and won’t have eaten so they are given breakfast and lunch.
The second charity is Cheshire Agricultural Chaplaincy, which works with the farming community. Farming as an occupation has one of the highest rates of stress, anxiety and suicide.
Earlier in the year we ran an appeal for Shelter Box. We were able to send Shelter Box a donation of £1005 with the help of a generous donation from Whitegate PCC. Shelter Box help the victims in disaster areas to rebuild their homes.
Giving at St. Peter’s goes on throughout the year. There is a box permanently at the back of the church for donations of tinned etc. food to give to the Salvation Army in Winsford who also receive the fresh produce after Harvest Festival and toys from the Crib Service at Christmas. Money received at the Christingle Service in December goes to The Children’s Society and many people hold boxes which are emptied annually.
If you have a charity that is dear to your heart, perhaps for personal reasons, we would like to hear from you.
